BMW M was established back in May 1972 in order to facilitate BMW's racing program. It started small, with only 35 employees and its first project was the 3.0 CSL. The company grew slowly, and in 1978 it revealed its official M-badged car for the public: the M1. Today BMW M offers modified versions for nearly every BMW nameplate, with the exception of the Z4, 7-Series and X1.

And now, to celebrate half a century of existence, BMW M is offering its customers the possibility to decorate their cars with a special logo inspired by the classic "BMW Motorsport" logo.

Every customer that will get a BMW M high-performance car, like the M3,M4,X3 M etc., produced from March 2022 will get this special logo. } It will be placed on the front, rear and wheel hubs. As an option it will also be offered for the BMW M performance models like the M340i, M440i, X3 M40i. This special logo will be available for ordering starting the end of January 2022.

If you can't see the violet in today's logo is because during its 50 years of existence the violet has given way to a dark blue.

Of course the logo will be just the start of the 50th anniversary celebration. We expect to see a lot of special editions arriving next year and maybe even a successor for the M1, as rumors have said in the past?

Until we will get an answer to this question, we do know that BMW will also offer 50 iconic and historically significant BMW M paint finishes for selected cars of 2022. These unique colors will include: Dakar Yellow, Fire Orange, Daytona Violet, Macao Blue, lmola Red or Frozen Marina Bay Blue.

“With the classic BMW Motorsport emblem, we would like to share our joy about the anniversary of BMW M GmbH with fans of the brand,” says Franciscus van Meel, Chairman of the Board of Management of BMW M GmbH. “We have a great year ahead of us, which will be celebrated with unique product highlights and exciting performances. The M has long been considered the strongest letter in the world, and in our company’s anniversary year it is stronger than ever.”
