A few months back, BMW revealed that its performance arm was dipping its toes in the drifting scene. The automaker was backing the Hountondji brothers who are famously known as the Red Bull Driftbrothers. BMW handed them two pre-production M4 Competitions eight weeks back, and the duo has now revealed the monsters. All the exact specs are yet to be revealed, but we do know that the cars make more than 1,000 ponies! The Hountondji brothers will take these cars to the 2021 season of the Drift Masters European Championship in Greinbach, Austria.

How Much Power Do These Drift-Bimmers Make?

Elias and Johannes received BMW’s blessings and were handed over two pre-production M4 Competitions to prep for the upcoming Drift Masters European Championship. They had just eight weeks in hand, but the brothers and their team managed to do a fantastic job.

The stock engine is retained, but a lot of changes have been made.

The team installed bigger turbos and moved the radiators a little further to make more space and access the parts as it had now become a tight fit. Other than the turbos, the port injection, and the heads, everything else is stock under the hood.

These M4 Competition Alter-Egos Are No Joke

The aerodynamics were also extensively modified and optimized for drifting. The company’s new, huge kidney grille helped here as it can optimize airflow to the engine. ‘Winglets’ were installed to channel the airflow to the front splitter and behind the front wheels as well as in front of the rear wheels. The company also mentioned that the new spoiler lip on the rear deck, the rear diffuser, and the attachments on the side sills are composed of carbon fiber.

To achieve the massive increase in performance, the Driftbrothers installed an efficient cooling circuit along with an additional second cooler at the rear. Finally, on one car, the exhaust peeps slightly out of the front fender, whereas on the other, the quad-pipe setup is routed out of the rear windshield; or whatever’s left of it.

What They Had To Say?

BMW M’s bossman, Markus Flasch, visited them to see the result and he was impressed, too.

Why Are BMW M4 Competitions Transformed to Drift Machines?

The Red Bull Driftbrothers, Elias and Johannes Hountondji, will take part in the upcoming 2021 season of the Drift Masters European Championship. The first round will take place on July 10 and 11 in Greinbach, Austria. The second round of the championship will be held on 30 and 31 August in Riga, Latvia, and the third round on 4 and 5 October in Tiflis, Georgia.

The Red Bull Driftbrothers have participated in the Drift Masters European Championship since 2018 and are at the top of their game. Their rankings are a testimony to that. They were the 2017 King of Europe champion and vice-champion as well. This could be one of the biggest reasons why BMW backed this team.

Now we have to wait and watch if they come out victorious or not. It will be a huge boost for BMW and the drifting scene in general. Anyway, what do you have to say about these cars? Share your thoughts with us in the comments section below.
