BMW M series: manual X5 set to come, but no 1-series
The Australian magazine Wheels reports that the BMW executive have confirmed that an M version of the X5 is going to be made, but there will be no version of the current 1-series. The manual M5 is something sure, especially for the US market.
It seems that the new model will be the M6 convertible which is set to be announced in a few months. But building an M version of the 1 series would be much more to expensive, so BMW said that th 130i "has enough power" and there won’t be a business case for an M version of the 1 series.
An X5-M prototype was buit some years ago, and was driven round the Nürburgring in 7’ 49" but was never available to the public. Now, the presence rivals such as the ML 63 AMG and the Cayenne Turbo S might push BMW to develop the X5-M.
