For those of you who have gotten used to spending a part of your holidays watching Top Gear’s Christmas Special, it does feel like there’s something missing this year. Sure, there will technically be a special episode, but it’s not the kind that we’ve come to love. Jeremy Clarkson, Richard Hammond, and James May won’t be doing they usual escapades in God-knows-where because they’re no longer a part of Top Gear. Instead, we’ll see a “best of” episode featuring some of the trio’s most memorable moments in the show. It’s different, but at least we’ll get one last hurrah with the three amigos before we catch them on Amazon Prime next season.

In the meantime, Top Gear’s YouTube channel did post a nostalgic piece on what might be one of Clarkson’s last comparison tests on Top Gear. It features two stalwarts of BMW’s range - the M3 and the i8 - and how one compares to the other. Yeah, it’s like comparing apples to oranges, but Clarkson’s right when he said that we live in “strange” times. One of BMW’s pillars being compared to its newest and most talked-about sports car. Strange, indeed. But, that’s the thing; you have to look past the obvious differences to understand that picking one over the other is a lot more difficult than you’d imagine. Do you take the M3 and it’s top-class features or do you take the i8 and its new-age bells and whistles?

Ever the outspoken one, Clarkson tried to find out. The video itself doesn’t appear to cover the whole segment, but in those eight minutes, Jeremy was able to make the case for both cars, highlighting what one does better over the other and vice versa. It’s a nice clip to watch, especially if you’re in the position of having to choose one or the other. And if for nothing else, it’s one of the last segments we’ll ever see from Jeremy Clarkson at Top Gear. That alone makes watching this video worth the eight minutes.
