Race car driver Jorg Weidinger recently piloted the BMW M4 GTS around the Nürburgring in around 7 minutes and 28 seconds. His official time, however, hasn’t been released yet, as BMW M GmbH,->ke178 Daimlerstr decided to run a contest based on Weidinger’s amazing lap time. Unfortunately, the window to enter the contest closed at 6 p.m. in Germany today, but the contest is still more than noteworthy.

The contest was open to anyone of legal age and required one major stipulation to enter. Contestants simply had to guess Weidinger’s exact lap time around the Nürburgring – down to the hundredth of a second. The only hint: The time is somewhere between 7:27:51 and 7:28:49. That’s a pretty tight time frame to guess in, and it would be pretty cool to guess it right. But, the prize that lucky contestant has won is even cooler. The winner gets to ride shotgun in that M4 GTS ->ke4183as Weidinger takes the track once again.

That prize might not be as cool as driving the M4 GTS yourself, but who wouldn’t want to be gut chucked around the legendary track by a pro. I surely wouldn’t mind. That lucky contestant that won the contest will also have all travel costs to the event paid for, so that makes it a win-win.

Why it matters

So, what is so special about Weidinger’s lap time? It’s certainly not a record-setter, as other cars have done it much quicker, but it an accomplishment nonetheless. For comparison purposes, the 2014 BMW M4 hit the 'ring in 7:52 and the Corvette C6 Z06 did it in 7:22:68 – that’s pretty good for a production car. I think the biggest point here is how much better the M4 GTS over the standard M4. I know the contest is over, but what is your guess at the official time for the M4 GTS? I’m guessing Weidinger hit it in 7:28:13, but we’ll have to wait to see just how close that guess is. I’ll be keeping my eye out for the official results.
