BMW->ke178 has just dropped cover on the second generation of its X1->ke2474 crossover,->ke288 and it promises to deliver a roomier interior, a more efficient drivetrain, and lots of innovative technology.

For its U.S. launch, the X1 xDrive28i will be the exclusive model on offer, featuring a 2.0-liter turbocharged four-cylinder engine with 228 horsepower and 258 pound-feet of torque routed to all four wheels through an eight-speed Steptronic automatic transmission. A sprint to 60 mph will take 6.3 seconds. An M Sport package will be offered later this year, and will come with a new steering wheel, sport suspension, and sport seats.

On the outside, you’ll find a restyled aesthetic with a taller, more rugged stance. The seating position is also raised, giving the X1 a more traditional SUV->ke145 feel.

Inside, things have been redesigned as well, offering greater head- and legroom, not to mention more space for cargo. Technology is enhanced via an optional 8.8-inch control display with a touchpad controller that integrates BMW Online, BMW Apps, Remote Services, and Advanced Real-Time Traffic Information. There is also an available 6.5-inch screen.

Other options include full-LED adaptive headlights and the latest BMW heads-up display, as well as a slew of safety-oriented driver’s aides like Lane Departure Warning, Automatic High Beams, Frontal Collision Warning, and Speed Limit Info.
