BMW thought it had the ultimate burn against its biggest rival, Mercedes, by releasing an image on social media that showed a Mercedes wearing a BMW costume. Things didn’t work out as planned, and now @BMAUSA’s social media team is feeling the burn as Daimler AG points out that even it doesn’t like BMW’s new massive grille designs.

BMW Trolled Mercedes, But It Backfired Almost Immediately

It didn’t take longer than a half-hour for Daimler AG to reply to BMW, and instead of jumping on the trolling image wagon, the company had a very simple reply that resonates with its own base as well as a lot of BMW’s:

Some other twitter users even got in on the fun with their own images and a few gifs too

In case you’re not aware of what all the jokes are about, even though at this point you’d have to be living under a rock to have missed all the controversy, BMW is in a stage of its evolution where it things bigger is better. Well, bigger grilles are better. IT started with the new X7 and the new BMW 8 Series. Then BMW launched the Concept 4 that previewed the new 4 Series, and it had the biggest, most hideous BMW grille yet. The worst part is that BMW is sticking with the massive grille design and may even go bigger in the future because that’s what BMW’s evolution is all about, apparently.

Be that as it may, at least this bit of trolling was fun. I wouldn’t hold out hope that BMW will listen to its rival about those big grilles though – it surely hasn’t listened to its base, that’s for sure.

Now, you have a few options. You can leave Topspeed.com, or you can check out the first real look at the BMW 4 Series’ grille. You could also check out the news about how long the M3 and M4 have been Delayed. Even better yet, why don’t you read up about BMW’s plans for the M3, M4, M5, and 1 Series!
