The next-generation BMW M2 was caught testing many times in the past few months, but it was only at the end of March 2022 when our spy photographers were also able to spot an M2 equipped with some cool M Performance Parts. It is exactly this version of the M2 that was teased by BMW in an official Instagram post.
The first thing you will notice are those cool M light-alloy wheels. They are similar to the ones the prototype caught testing was wearing, except that this time, they feature a bronze color, instead of black. They also feature a pattern similar to what we have seen in the new generation M3 and M4.
The M Performance Parts also include a very aggressive rear wing that gives the M2 a "Fast and Furious" feeling. And yes, if it looks familiar it is because it looks similar to the one found on the E30 M3, but bigger and meaner.
While that’s all the new teaser image reveals, previous spy shots also showed an M Performance exhaust system with diagonally-stacked quad pipes.
As for the G87 M2 in general, we already know it will be a big departure from the model it replaces. It will offer a completely new look - although it will not feature the big controversial grille that we’ve seen on the M3 and the M4. It will also grow a little in size, and, according to previous BMW statements, it will offer a perfect 50:50 weight distribution.
The next M2 will continue as a rear-wheel-drive model, but the current S55 will be ditched in favor of the S58 - also used in the M3 and the M4. Of course, do not expect the same amount of power as offered in these two, but, rumors suggest the next M2 will deliver around 410 horsepower, while the Competition version will go up to 430 horsepower. This is nowhere near as good as the 473 or 503 horsepower offered in the M3/M4 models, but still is a very good improvement when compared to the model it replaces: 365 horsepower and 343 pound-feet of torque in the standard version and 404 horsepower and 406 pound-feet of torque in the Competition version.
It is believed that BMW will unveil the new generation M2 during the Goodwood Festival of Speed from June 23-26, 2022.
