After years of rumors, spy shots, and leaks, it looks as though the full public release for the new BMW Z4 is just a few weeks out. The German brand is teasing the debut of an “all-new BMW production car” slated to drop cover during Monterey Car Week, and by all accounts, it’s looking like the hotly anticipated two-seater performance roadster will steal the spotlight.

The Full Story

Monterey Car Week is usually a hotbed of activity for the big automakers, and it makes sense to drop a major debut at one of the biggest car parties in the world - that is, the Pebble Beach Concours d’Elegance, which is set to take place on the Central California coast later this month.

Last year, BMW brought out the Concept 8 Series Coupe to strut its stuff on the Concept Lawn, and this year, the Bavarians will follow it up with the production 8 Series model.

So far, BMW has confirmed the North American debut for the M850i Coupe and M8 Gran Coupe Concept car, the latter of which will undoubtedly give us a glimpse at the brand’s latest design language, something that will see use on a production vehicle slated for release next year.

Additionally, BMW will give us the world premiere of an as-of-yet undisclosed production model. BMW isn’t saying what the world premiere will be, merely stating that the “new model will certainly be an emotional addition to the BMW range.” That said, we’re fairly certain it’ll be the new Z4.

To help build hype, BMW included a close-cropped teaser image of what appears to be the passenger-side kidney grille intake on the Z4’s front fascia. The intake uses a unique insert, with a black diamond-shaped backing mesh highlighted by vertical silver bits.

Official specs and figures for the new Z4 are obviously still on the way, but rumor has it the Bavarians will offer a 2.0-liter four-cylinder under the sDrive30i badge, as well as a 3.0-liter six-cylinder under the M40i badge.

Output will likely range around 380 horsepower and 369 pound-feet for the six-cylinder, with an eight-speed automatic transmission sending power to the rear for a run to 60 mph in about 4.5 seconds.

Look for the full debut on August 23rd at The Lodge at the Pebble Beach Golf Course. We’ll have complete coverage right here at TopSpeed.
