The crew from Car and Driver spotted the real live BMW Vision EfficientDynamics concept car in front of the BMW Welt Delivery Center in Munich just outside the German based car company’s headquarters a short while ago. Up until now we have only been privy to teasers, renderings and factory stills; but this photo gives the vehicle the sense of being a real car, and that is because it is.

The BMW Vision EfficientDynamics is a 2+2-seater plug-in hybrid model powered by a 1.5 Liter three cylinder turbo diesel engine that produces 163 HP and 214 lb-ft of torque that is combined with two electric motors mated to a DTC gearbox to produce a very efficient sports car. All three power generators work together to deliver a maximum output of 356 HP and a peak 590 lb-ft of torque while fuel consumption is reduced to a very impressive 75.1 MPG. That much economical power allows the BMW Vision EfficientDynamics to sprint from 0 to 60 MPH in just 4.8 seconds and reach top speed of 155 MPH.

Al Gore would certainly be very happy with this car. A preview of the future, and that for sure, we will have a future if we will support hybrid cars to prevent the effects of global warming and climate change.

I think we could do more if we compare it not to a Japanese car manufacturer but to other cars like the Porsche Cayenne Hybrid. I think that the SUV is a lot better than the BMW Vision EfficientDynamics concept car. It has a higher probability that it would do in the market because it looks like a normal car.

I don’t think so. The good thing perhaps is that its a concept car and would be, hopefully, released in the future. So it has all the rights to appear futuristic for that matter. I don’t think that it could be comparable to Honda Hybrid but this is one thing that could challenge the Japanese car manufacturer to improve their hybrid cars. The Civic hybrid has 1.3 can only produce as much as 85hp. While a 1.5 engine, as for BMW has 163hp. It’s twice more powerful and the engine power has not been doubled at all.

Yes, I would agree to that. I’m trying to recall the teaser that the BMW released a few days ago and its hard to imagine that it is really this car that we are talking about. Good thing that this is just a concept car. Too futuristic perhaps?

The look is definitely impressing. It gave me a view of how cars would probably look like 20 years from now. Considering that the engine has only a small difference with the Honda Civic Hybrid, the amount of horsepower that BMW Vision EfficientDynamics concept car can produce is very impressing too.
