BMW earlier announced that it will reveal the China-exclusive 7 Series Horse Edition at the Beijing Auto Show->ke2062, and now it appears that the German automaker is set to use the Asian event to introduce yet another large sedan->ke142.The good news is that we won't see yet another special edition based on the 7 Series, but a brand-new vehicle that will top BMW's lineup in the future. Yes, we're talking about something bigger than the aforementioned sedan. A limousine that's rumored to come alive under the 9 Series moniker.

According to a recent report, the executive four-door will be shown as a concept car in Beijing, with the production model, which is expected to arrive sometime in 2016, to compete against the 2015 Mercedes-Benz S600 Pullman, Stuttgart's spiritual successor to the Maybach.

The extra-long-wheelbase BMW will share underpinning with the upcoming 7 Series, meaning it will be bolted on BMW's lightweight G11 modular platform. The 9 Series will borrow styling cues from the BMW Pininfarina Gran Lusso Coupe, also believed so serve as inspiration for an 8 Series revival.

Little else is known about the 9 Series, but if this report turns out to be true, BMW's new flagship is likely to be positioned alongside the Rolls-Royce Ghost.

BMW Pininfarina Gran Lusso Coupe

Introduced at the 2013 Concorso d'Eleganza Villa d'Este, the one-off BMW Pininfarina Gran Lusso Coupe is a large, luxury two-door coupe powered by a V-12 engine. The clean, yet menacing design included a large twin kidney grille, unique taillamp architecture, and muscular lines stretching from the hood toward the rear end.

Blending sportiness and luxury, the cabin was fitted with high-quality materials and wood inlays through the doors, dashboard and steering wheel. Like most concept cars, the Gran Lusso was unveiled without any performance specifications whatsoever.
