Auto Motor Und Sport published a few computer renderings of the up-coming BMW X6, a model that will be unveiled in 2008 at the Detroit Auto Show.

Before 2008 Detroit, BMW will present a two-door hybrid study which will closely look with the X6. The Frankfurt Prototype will, on one hand give a close look of the X6, and on the other hand will anticipate two hybrid models that will be presented at the end of 2008: one based on the X5 and one on the X6.

The upcoming X6 will be technical inspired by the X5; the wheelbase will have the same value of 2.93 meters, but will have a bigger lenght: 4.9 meters; only the hight will be 10 cm shorter.

The interior resembles with the one of the X5, but because of a more strongly bent windshield and a strongly dropping flat roof line there will be place only for two seats rows.

The cockpit will keep the same characteristics of the X5, but will be more sportier. The X6 will get an eight-speed gearbox, that will be found in the next 7-Series Limousine. The X6 will also get a start-stop system to reduce the fuel consumption.

The X6 will have a maximum output of 500 hp.

It’s a nice concept, but once again, I think they should make it 3 door only. As a 5 door it would be competing against the X5 too closely. A new niche could be created for a mid-sized crossover with the sportiness of 3 doors.
