Brabus Restored The Mercedes-Benz 300 SL Gullwing To Perfection - gallery

Mercedes launched the 300 SL back in 1954 and a total of 1,400 units were produced

This specific unit - with number plate "EI-DR 1"was produced in 1955 and privately owned for 39 years

Brabus bought it in 2020 and realized it is the 300 SL featured in the "Cars" series by Andy Warhol

Andy Warhol was asked by Daimler-Benz AG to realize a total of 80 pictures showing 20 selected vehicles that marked the company’s history

Before his death, Andy Warhol only managed to finish 36 paintings and 13 large-scale drawings - and the 300 SL is one of the cars he painted

Brabus started the restoration process under the 6-Star-Restoration - a process defined at its core by authenticity and immaculate attention to detail

The company needed more than 4,500 hours of labor and replaced countless new parts

But, after all the work, the car is at the same specification it once was delivered by Daimler-Benz

All the paint and rust were removed

And the body was restored to the original condition

It was finished in a new coat of paint in the 300 SL’s original color: "silver grey 180 metallic."

The powertrain was completely rebuilt by Brabus

But the 3.0-liter straight-six engine delivers exactly 215 horsepower

For both the chassis and brakes all the components were replaced with new ones

And the cabin was reupholstered with the same leather and fabric materials as the original

The car, next with the ‘Carsʼ series by Andy Warhol will be on display in the Atrium of the Mercedes-Benz Museum from 21 to 26 June 2022
