Breaking: BMW 8 Series Leaks With an Ugly Rear End
Oh boy, it’s almost as ugly as the Bangle-butt 6 Seriesby Ciprian Florea, on
We’ve seen too many spy shots of the upcoming 8 Series for its exterior design to be a mystery, but some important details were still hidden under wraps. And needless to say, the concept car looked way to aggressive for a production model. The flagship coupe is still a few months away from going public, but we can already have a look at its design thanks to a batch of photos that just surfaced the Interwebz. The 8 Series shown in Bimmer Post’s leak is white, camo-free, and confirms that the new coupe will be just a slightly fancied-up 6 Series.
The rear end is indeed unique thanks to its long and slim headlamps, the massive license plate recess in the bumper, and the black trim around the diffuser-like element
Its front fascia is far from surprising. We’re looking at the same design cues seen on most current Bimmers, especially the slim, angular headlamps and the three-piece intake in the bumper. The grille is the only feature that’s slightly different, being wider and having sharp outer edges, but we’ve seen that too on some of the brand’s concept cars. The long hood and the roof seem similar to the outgoing 6 Series in terms of shape size, so the 8 Series is far from being a full-sized competitor for the Mercedes-Benz S-Class Coupe.
The rear end is indeed unique thanks to its long and slim headlamps, the massive license plate recess in the bumper, and the black trim around the diffuser-like element. But it’s still ugly. Okay, it’s not as ugly as the Bangle-era 6 Series, but that massive recess makes the rear fascia look unfinished. Seriously now, maybe BMW forgot to add something in that area?
The 8 Series will probably make its public debut at the 2018 Geneva Motor Show so make sure you stick around for updates.
