First and foremost, this is not an official confirmation the the Ford Bronco will debut at the Detroit Auto Show, but it is a pretty good indication. The Fast Lane Car has reportedly received confirmation from “unnamed insiders” that the Ford Bronco will debut in Detroit this year. Oddly enough, Ford has been planing its unveiling for this spring and the new, outdoor Detroit Auto Show fits that bill perfectly, right at the end of the Spring season.

The New Bronco is Coming to the Detroit Auto Show...Probably

Without the only official confirmation being that the new Bronco will debut in the spring, it’s probably best to take the Detroit Auto Show thing with a grain of salt. Then again, when we saw the Shelby GT500 debut at the Detroit Auto Show, time essentially stopped, and damn near every journalist in the joint showed up at Ford’s booth. It looked like a contained rave, really.

But, that’s also why the 2020 Detroit Auto Show kind of makes sense. With the Detroit Auto Show being mainly outside this year, automakers probably have more freedom. There will be more test tracks, more test drives, and it would be the perfect venue for Ford to set up its own little off-road course or steal the show with some wild Land Rover-like antics. It worked for the GT500 in a very limited area, and that wasn’t even that impressive of a show. The Bronco is, probably, even more anticipated than the GT500.

We Still Haven’t Seen The Bronco in Its Real Form

Ford may have released “teasers” of the 2020 Ford Bronco, but they haven’t exactly been the Bronco. All the prototypes in those images were modified Ford Rangers. They may have had the same general interior goodies, but what was more important about them was the underpinnings. Since the Ford Ranger and Ford Bronco share the same chassis, frame, and possibly, suspension to some degree, Ford has been able to keep the official body of the Bronco under wraps pretty well.

The closest we’ve come to seeing the real Bronco was that Bronco R off-roader that couldn’t handle the Baja 1000. It was kind of similar to what we’ll get, but it was largely modified inside, out, and underneath. The general shape, however, does give us a hint as to what we can expect – just don’t expect the production model to have the full-on roll cage, and the rear end will probably have glass panels.

Final Thoughts

That model will come with the 10-speed automatic while a hybrid drivetrain will be offered further down the line. A Bronco Raptor is expected to show up a year or two after the bronco launches, and there may end up being the option for a manual transmission as well. If the Bronco really does launch at the 2020 Detroit Auto Show, we can expect it hit dealers by the end of 2020 (just in time for winter shenanigans), and it should start out somewhere in the low-to-mid $30,000 range. There will be enough accessories, however, to push that price north of $50,000 if you don’t exercise some kind of restraint. We have covered a lot of bits and pieces of the new Bronco, so check out our list of coverage to get in the know before it launches.
