Unlike the Bugatti Veyron, the Chiron has yet to spawn a targa version. The Chiron is already four years into its life cycle and it seems a bit unlikely that Bugatti will build a roadster, but a new report claims that the French firm is developing one as we speak. But unlike the Veyron Grand Sport, the Chiron roadster will be a one-off model.

The Bugatti Chiron roadster will be unique and very expensive

The report comes from TheSupercarBlog and claims, quoting anonymous sources, that "an open-top version of the Chiron is being offered to customers." Although this phrase suggests that Bugatti might build a limited series car, the report goes on to say that the roadster will actually be "a one-off project." And just like other unique cars based on the Chiron, the roadster will cost a fortune. The report says that Bugatti wants €9 million before taxes for this car, which converts to around $10.1 million as of June 2020.

While this is notably more expensive than the regular Chiron, it's not as much as Bugatti's latest one-off creation, the La Voiture Noire. The Atlantic-inspired supercar was sold for €11 million before taxes, or around $12.4 million.

If we do a bit of math, the Chiron roadster, which will definitely have a fancy name, will end up costing at least $15 million after taxes.

The Bugatti Chiron roadster will feature a bespoke design

Because it's a one-off project that will cost more than $10 million, the roadster will be more than just a targa version of the Chiron. I'm expecting this model to feature a coachbuilt body with significant changes front and rear, just like the La Voiture Noire and the Centodieci.

It could also be a barchetta-style model rather than a traditional roadster, with a lowered, wrap-around windscreen and flying buttresses around back. It will definitely stand out and won't look anything like a regular Chiron roadster, assuming Bugatti will eventually offer one at some point.

The Bugatti Chiron roadster to join eight other limited or unique models

Production of the Chiron is well underway with more than 250 units built so far and Bugatti has released eight limited-edition or unique models up until now. There's the Sport and Pur Sport versions, each limited to 60 units, and the Noire and Sport 110 Ans Bugatti, built in 20 examples each.

Bugatti is also building 30 units of the Super Sport 300+ model. The La Voiture Noire is a one-off design, while the Centodieci pays tribute to the EB110 and is limited to 10 units. Finally, we have the Bugatti Divo with a more radical exterior and a production run limited to 40 examples.
