On one hand, you have automakers that come up with anniversary or special editions of their models once in a while. On the other hand, you have Bugatti – a company that has been milking the Chiron with no end in sight. The latest iteration of the Chiron – the 14th model – is called the Chiron Super Sport. The company revealed it a day after teasing it. It is pretty much the same as the Super Sport 300 that was launched a couple of years back. Bugatti says this is more comfortable as a daily driver and has a higher top speed – 273 mph as opposed to 261 mph.

What’s Different About The Chiron Super Sport?

The Chiron Super Sport comes with similar mods that were made to the record-setting Chiron Super Sport 300+ driven by Andy Wallace that clocked 304.773 mph. A production version of that car soon followed and was limited to 30 examples. The Super Sport comes two years after that record run and features the same body, but with a few changes to help it achieve stability at high speeds.

The front fenders have nine holes each punched to them to release pressure from the wheel wells. It is also an ode to the EB 110 Super Sport

The Chiron Super Sport package was developed in collaboration with Dallara, the famous racecar chassis builder. The ‘long tail’ is stretched by 9.8 inches to optimize airflow for as long as possible to reduce drag at high speeds. The front fenders have nine holes each – an ode to the EB110 Super Sport – punched to them to release pressure from the wheel wells. Other than this, the exhaust pipes have been relocated to the corners as split pairs with a large diffuser placed between them. The diffuser cross-section, by the way, is enlarged and reduces the rear trailering surface by 44-percent.

The Super Sport rides on redesigned aluminum wheels with a five Y-spoke design. You can have these wheels with a diamond-cut finish as well. They come wrapped in Michelin Pilot Sport Cup 2 tires that are specifically developed for this car. You can also opt for magnesium wheels that were first seen on the Chiron Pur Sport, if these aluminum wheels don’t float your boat.

Bugatti has also fine-tuned the suspension setup here for improved driving dynamics. The rear dampers are seven-percent stiffer to enhance stability at higher speeds. The Super Sport comes with new active suspension and steering software, too.

The Chiron Super Sport Features The Same Engine, But With More Horsepower

The Chiron Super Sport is powered by the same 8.0-liter, W-16 engine with a quad-turbo setup. The new turbos, however, are lighter and feature more efficient compressor wheels

Coming to the engine configurations, the Chiron Super Sport is powered by the same 8.0-liter, W-16 engine with a quad-turbo setup. Bugatti has made use of new turbos here that are lighter and feature more efficient compressor wheels. The same seven-speed dual-clutch transmission does duties here, too, but with a few changes. The seventh gear is now said to be 3.6-percent longer that allows the car to go faster.

This results in higher power output - 1,578 horses at 7,000 rpm, which is 99 ponies more than the standard Chiron and the Chiron Sport. The torque output is rated at 1,180 pound-feet between 2,250- and 7,000 rpm.

This is a higher bandwidth as the peak torque is limited to 6,000 rpm on the other iterations. The engine also revs up to 7,100 rpm here; 300 rpm higher.

What Is The Chiron Super Sport’s Top Speed and 0-62 mph Time?

The 2019 model driven by Andy Wallace touched 304.773 mph, but this ‘production-version’ is slightly tamed and tops out 273 mph before the speed limiter kicks in.

As for the sprint times, the Chiron Super Sport takes 2.4 seconds to sprint to 62 mph from a standstill, 5.8 seconds to 124 mph, and 12.1 seconds to 186 mph.
