Capturing the spirit of the legendary Bugatti EB110, French boutique car maker Bugatti just unveiled the fantastic looking Centodieci. With a name that quite literally means 110, the Centodieci is one more special hypercar based on the Chiron's architecture. Now, with 100 horsepower more for a total of 1,600 horsepower. Yea, I know. Crazy!

“With the Centodieci we pay homage to the EB110 super sports car which was built in the 1990s and is very much a part of our tradition-steeped history,” says Stephan Winkelmann, President of Bugatti. “With the EB110, Bugatti catapulted itself to the top of the automotive world once again after 1956 with a new model.”

Apart from remembering the EB110, Bugatti also celebrates its 110th anniversary this year. In that regard, the creation of the Centodieci is only expected.

Bugatti Centodieci

Obviously, the Bugatti Centodieci is not the fastest Bugatti, but you can not argue with its acceleration numbers. The new exterior look of the car, heavily inspired by the EB110, definitely created some challenges for engineers and designers. While it does evoke a certain eccentric prestige of the EB110, the Centodieci also builds on the architecture borrowed from the Chiron. If we are to believe Bugatti (and we are to believe it), the Centodieci is actually a better performer on the track compared to the Chiron. It saves about 44 pounds of unladen weight over the Chiron thanks to the integration of:

- Lightweight windscreen wiper

- Carbon fiber stabilizers

- Filigree exterior mirrors

I have never seen an automaker uses an intricate filigree design on a car, but this is a Bugatti. If you don't know what filigree is, Google explains it as an "ornamental work of fine (typically gold or silver) wire formed into delicate tracery."

With increased power and saved weight, the Centodieci offers an incredible power-to-weight ratio of 1.13 kilograms per horsepower. Only extreme cars such as Hennessey Venom GT2 can provide better power-to-weight ratio. Yet, do not think for a second that any other manufacturer can achieve such meticulous attention to detail and quality as that of a Bugatti.

The design of the Centodieci also provides certain track-worthy benefits. It provides 90 kilos of downforce granting Centodieci with levels of lateral acceleration similar to that of the Divo. Considering that the Divo was the most extreme interpretation of the Bugatti ethos, I did not expect any other new car from the company to achieve such incredible performance. Yet, here we are.

Bugatti Centodieci Engine

Bugatti did not disclose any info about how it increased the power of the 8.0-liter W-16 engine. I believe its engineers did some sort of ECU trickery, buffed up the cooling, and maybe changed the exhaust. Nevertheless, I feel like the Centodieci has a similar relationship with the Chiron, as the Veyron Super Sport had with the "standard" Veyron. All in all, with 1,600 horsepower at 7,000 rpm, I dont think that anyone would need more power. I feel funny even thinking about 1,600 horsepower in a car. Remember, the Huracan, which is an animal, has almost 1,000 horsepower less compared to this monster. Strange times we live in!

The Centodieci's Design is Heavenly Reminiscent of the Bugatti EB110 from the Nineties

Unlike the stunning  La Voiture Noire from March 2019, the Centodieci takes all the design cues from the EB110 and morphs them into a new age.

"The front is subordinated to the generally low geometry of the vehicle, despite its original, predominant cooling surface. The newly developed, complex and very narrow headlamps with integrated LED daytime running lights provide the perfect match. Thanks to the newly developed lighting elements, we were stylistically free in the front and rear sections to pay respectful homage to the EB110 while at the same time transposing this appealing visual reminiscence into modern technology,” says Achim Anscheidt, Head Designer at Bugatti.

Now, I can only say that I like the car and I think that it captures the nature of the EB110 very well.

Bugatti plans to produce ten units and sell each of them for $8.87 million a pop. While Bugatti did not disclose any information about prospective buyers, I am sure that the company already sold every one of them.
