General Motors is having to do some shuffling with their future line up in order to work around their current economic situation. The General started by announcing that their plans for a 4.5 Liter turbo diesel V8, the 2.9 Liter VM Motori turbo diesel V6 destined for European CTS’s and the Alpha 3 Series fighting rear drive platform are on hold; and not likely to see the light of day anytime soon.

Also, the proposed Epsilon front and all wheel drive sedan, codenamed the GM 166, will debut somewhere between the future Buick LaCrosse and the rear drive Cadillac CTS. Another, not so fortunate model, the DT7 bit the dust. The 7 was meant to replace the STS and DTS Cadillac sedans. This suggests that the next entry level Caddy, the CTS, will gain some weight and fill the roles of both the CTS and the larger DT7.

The Cadillac 166 is scheduled to be unveiled late in 2011 for the 2012 model year. Featuring the same exterior design as the CTS, the bow tie’s luxury brand will focus their attention mostly on interior detail and exterior jewelry.
