Can A Base Model X Hold Its Ground Against The High-Performance Trackhawk?

Both these family haulers gun it down the drag strip, but which one will come out on top? Let’s find out

Okay, it’s no surprise that with SUVs now the vehicle of choice for most buyers, these family haulers are now frequently spotted at the drag strip as well.

This time around, an older generation Tesla Model X takes on a high-performance, fire-breathing Jeep Grand Cherokee Trackhawk. The video was put out by the Wheels YouTube channel. Let’s see if the Tesla holds its ground against the Jeep?

Now there was no mention if there were any mods done to the Jeep so I guess we’ll have to work with the base line figures to draw some context

In the red corner, we have a Jeep Grand Cherokee Trackhawk. Under the hood is a 6.2 liter V-8 that puts out a healthy 707 horsepower and 645 pound-feet of torque. You’ve got eight cogs to play with along with AWD traction.

The Jeep tips the scales at 5,363 pounds. The Jeep seats five people. Now I can’t confirm if there were any other mods done to the Trackhawk.

They have a combined output of 517 horsepower and 487 lb-ft of torque. The Tesla weighs 5,200 lbs

In the black corner, we have an older generation Tesla Model X. While there were several flavors of the Model X over the years including the 60D, 70D, 75D, 90D 100D P100D, updated with bigger batteries over time. This particular example looks like one of the earlier ones. I, unfortunately, can’t confirm the exact model.

But for context, the Tesla Model X 90D put out 517 horsepower and 487 pound-feet of torque from its dual electric motors. Dual motors also meant that there’s all-wheel-drive traction. The Model X weighs about 5,200 lbs and can seat up to seven.

The Race

Coming back to the race, the entire clip was less than 30 seconds long. Although the Model X got the better launch, but that lead was short-lived as the Jeep took off

The total length of the clip was under 30 seconds. Both SUVs line up. The lights go out and Model X gets a perfect launch, however, it was all over with the first few feet as the fury of the Trackhawk was unleashed. The Jeep punched in a 1/4v mile time of 11.76 seconds at 114.21 mph against the Model X’s 13.04 seconds at 107.28 mph, which is still a respectable time.

To Sum It Up

It went on to take the win with a 1/4 mile time of 11.76 seoonds at 114.21 mph vs the Model X’ 13.04 seconds at 107.28 mph

Okay, so in my opinion, this really wasn’t a fair duel and was a pointless race altogether. I’m not taking sides here, but most Tesla fans will say that the new Model X Plaid will run rings around the Jeep. Eventually, we’ll maybe one day see an all-electric Jeep take on the Model X Plaid. Can’t wait to see what happens then. It would be a level playing field then.
