Sometimes, the best drag races are those that have some form of handicap. Take this race hosted by YouTube channel Track Day, for example. It’s a three-car throw down involving an F80-generation BMW M3 Competition, a 992-generation Porsche 911 Carrera S, and a BMW M240i. The latter is the obvious underdog in this race, but this isn’t your stock M240i that comes into the race with significant modifications, none more important than an engine upgrade that helps the turbocharged inline-six-cylinder engine produce more output than both the M3 Competition and the 911 Carrera S. The scales tip differently now, do they? Does the modified M240i have what it takes to beat the M3 Competition and the 911 Carrera S? Let’s find out.

What’s the tale of the tape?

Let’s be real. In stock form, the BMW M240i has no business being involved in a drag race with an F80 BMW M3 Competition and a 992 Porsche 911 Carrera S. The M240i is powered by a 3.0-liter turbocharged inline-six-cylinder engine that produces 335 horsepower and 369 pound-feet of torque. Those are impressive numbers…for its segment. It’s capable of sprinting from 0 to 60 mph in 4.2 seconds and hit a top speed of 155 mph. Again, the acceleration time is impressive…for its segment.

Unfortunately for the M240i, the F80 M3 Competition and the 992 911 Carrera S are on a different level. The M3 rocks the same engine as the M240, but the output from the twin-turbo inline-six is dialed up to 425 horsepower and 406 pound-feet of torque. This allows the M3 to cover 0 to 60 mph in 4.1 seconds and hit a top speed of 174 mph.

Then there’s the 992 Porsche 911 Carrera S. It’s powered by a 3.0-liter twin-turbo flat-six engine that produces 444 horsepower and 391 pound-feet of torque. It only takes 3.7 seconds to sprint from 0 to 60 mph before maxing out at a top speed of 191 mph.

The numbers paint a grim picture for the M240i, especially if it races the M3 Competition and the 911 Carrera S in a drag race. Then again, this isn’t a standard M240i. This is a heavily modified Bimmer with a laundry list of modifications and tuning upgrades that raise the output to a whopping 490 horsepower. Who’s the boss now, right?

All jokes aside, the modifications to the M240i help level the playing field, making this drag race a must-watch affair.

Who won?

We’re not going to give the results because that wouldn’t be fun. Instead, we’ll set the table and let you enjoy how it all went down. Track Day decided to go with three runs pitting all three performance cars. The first two runs were 30 to140 mph starts, and both quickly devolved into two-car races. The third and final race was a 0 to 145 mph race, and let’s just say that one had the leg-up over the other two.

We’ve said about as much as we can say without dropping any spoilers. Check out the video and see which of these three performance cars is the fastest in the strip.
