For the longest time, Nintendo’s go-to racing game was Mario Kart. It was a decidedly different approach from Sony and Microsoft, which touted the Gran Turismo and Forza Motorsport racing video game franchises, respectively. But with the arrival of the Nintendo Switch, the old guard is finally joining the party with its own dedicated racing video game simulator.

The game is called Gear.Club Unlimited, and while the title itself isn’t new – it’s based on the Gear.Club that is being offered on iOS and Android platforms – it is the first racing simulator that will be available for the Nintendo Switch. That distinction alone makes the game something of a must-see, in large part because it’s going to rely on the unique gaming experience that the Switch provides. Specific details about the game have yet to be announced, but we do know that it will be co-developed by publisher Microids in partnership with Eden Games. The latter is a good choice as any in developing Gear.Club Unlimited since it already has racing simulators like Need for Speed Porsche Unleashed, V-Rally Series, and Test Drive under its belt. The game is also expected to feature some of the world’s best exotics, including the McLaren 675LT, Nissan G-TR, Pagani Huayra, and the Mercedes SLS AMG, all of which were presented in the first trailer of the video game.

The game itself is expected to be launched in the fourth quarter of this year, although a specific price has not yet been announced. Rest assured, Gear.Club Unlimited may not have the esteem and status as Gran Turismo or Forza Motorsport, but if Microids and Eden Games really work on this title and develop it properly for the Switch, it could fill that massive racing simulator gap that Nintendo has been trying to fill to complement the iconic Mario Kart.
