Koenigsegg took the supercar world by storm in early 2020 with the Gemera, a four-seat grand tourer with a hybrid drivetrain that generates up to 1,700 horsepower. Around the same time, Polestar, Volvo's performance division, unveiled the Precept, a fully electric sports sedan that previews at least one production model.

What do these companies have in common? Not much apart from the fact that both are from Sweden, but their latest Instagram posts suggest they might be working together on a car project.

Specifically, Koenigsegg shared a photo showing the front ends of the Genera and the Polestar Precept concept. The caption is rather mysterious and reads "Something exciting coming soon. Stay tuned," followed by the hashtag #KoenigseggXPolestar.

Polestar's Instagram profile shows the same cars, but pictured from the rear. The caption reads "Something interesting is happening on the west coast of Sweden. Stay tuned" and it's followed by the same hashtag. A closer look reveals that the photos include the exact same cars and have the same buildings in the background, so we're talking about a shared photo shooting.

So what could this mean? Well, this cooperation is shrouded in complete mystery. The rumor mill includes no information whatsoever on this, so we can only speculate as to what might happen.

The Swedish companies could bring the technologies behind the Gemera and the Precept concept together for some sort of super sedan. Since Koenigsegg doesn't want to build a four-door, it could help Polestar achieve that goal with underpinnings from its supercars.

Second, there's the possibility that Koenigsegg and Polestar are working on a crossover. Koenigsegg said on many occasions that it won't build an SUV, but this doesn't mean that it can't be the result of a cooperation with another company. We already know that the Precept concept previews the styling of the Polestar 3 SUV, so maybe Koenigsegg is working on this specific vehicle with its new Swedish partners.

We should find out soon enough, so stick around for an update.
