You know the Model S Plaid is seriously fast when the McLaren 765 LT plays the underground in a face-offby Sidd Dhimaan, on LISTEN 03:42
Brooks from DragTimes brought two of his best vehicles on the drag strip for a face-off. The contenders are a Tesla Model S Plaid and a McLaren 765 LT. The Plaid is invincible, but the McLaren is no slouch. The 765 LT was the quickest production car to a quarter-mile before the Plaid arrived, taking just 9.3 seconds at 150+ mph. So, this will be an interesting match-up. From the looks of it, the Plaid might claim the bragging rights, but could the McLaren score some upset victories?
The Plaid’s Got Some Serious Competition Here
The Model S Plaid is powered by three electric motors that churn out 1,020 horses combined.
Power is routed to all four wheels. The Plaid is equipped with Michelin Pilot 4S tires and it had a 96-percent charge before the races began.
The McLaren 765LT, on the other hand, is powered by a 4.0-liter, twin-turbo V-8 engine that makes 755 horses.
Power is channeled to the rear wheels via a seven-speed dual-clutch automatic gearbox. It rides on Pirelli P-Zero tires and is completely stock, just like its rival here.
The McLaren weighs just 3,030 pounds, almost 1,800 pounds lighter than the 4,833-pound Tesla.
Is The McLaren Any Match For The King Of The Drag Strip?
In the first race, the Plaid jumped the start. The official reaction time also confirmed the same. But, both the cars completed the race, which, of course, the Plaid won. It took 9.270 seconds at 152 mph, whereas the McLaren 765 LT took 9.938 seconds at 143.37 mph.
The second race was legit and the McLaren was actually quicker off the lines due to better reaction times. It still couldn’t win though, as it took 10.03 seconds at 144.04 mph. The Tesla, on the other hand, took 9.279 seconds at 151.27 mph.
The third run was no different. The Model S Plaid again beat the McLaren 765 LT quite convincingly. In fact, it recorded its best run this time. The EV took 9.261 seconds at 152.66 mph, whereas the 765 LT took 10.150 seconds with a trap speed of 143.93 mph.
Quick Sprints There By The Model S Plaid
Brooks managed to record some fairly quick times here and came quite close to his best run. He had posted a time of 9.248 seconds a few months back, 0.001 seconds slower than Jay Leno’s time. Leno’s record was broken by another Plaid which clocked 9.081 seconds, but it’s only a matter of time before the Plaid becomes a sub-nine-second car. In case you didn’t know, the Model S Plaid also recently set a world record for the fastest production EV at the Nürburgring. It beat the Porsche Taycan Turbo’s record by 12 seconds.
