If you're ever feeling down in the dumps and need a new perspective on things, I'd like to suggest checking out the comedy of George Carlin. Granted, Carlin was never one to sugarcoat a situation, but his ability to drive straight to the bone of an issue is second to none. His sarcastic, highly intelligent dark comedy is legendary, and now, his well-preserved 8 Series can be had by the highest bidder.

The Full Story

Recently listed on the auto bidding site Bring A Trailer, Carlin's E31 8-Series is 1 of just 363 examples brought to North America. It features black paint on black leather upholstery, which is befitting of Carlin's chosen style of clothing and comedy. It's also mechanically all-original and has very few blemishes, plus it says “PHUNNY” on the license plate. Nice touch.

Behind the shark nose front end is a 5.4-liter V-12 engine, which produced 322 horsepower and 360 pound-feet of torque from the factory. The '12 mates to a 5-speed automatic transmission and drives the rear wheels exclusively. It also comes with Electronic Damper Control, an aftermarket stereo in the cabin, and 18-inch Racing Dynamics wheels in the corners. The car is relatively low in the mileage department, logging just 79,000 miles on the odometer.

“Comedian George Carlin was the sole operator of the car from new until his death in 2008, though it was first purchased by his business partner,” states the Bring A Trailer post. “It was acquired by Carlin's daughter following his passing in 2008 and she as added 11k miles since then.”

The car was recently serviced, and it also received a new headliner, an alignment, and it passed smog as well.

The auction ends Tuesday, February 20th. The current bid as of this writing (02/16/2018) is set at $25,250, although it's expected that number will rise significantly over the weekend due to the car's prestigious ownership.
