Imagine how it would be if you could driving and talking in the same time with the drivers next to you? Perhaps you’d like to give them advance warning that you intend to slow down, say thanks when they have given way or issue a gentle rebuke for some lapse of road manners on their part.
Sony is currently patenting a more elaborate means to get your message across to nearby drivers. The system uses high-powered LEDs built into a vehicle’s headlights that appear to produce a continuous beam of light but in fact are rapidly flashing an encoded message. A light sensor on the target vehicle would then decode the message and deliver it to the other driver.
The system could also be used to relay emergency messages via many different cars to a police vehicle or ambulance.
