• Car-tuner extraordinaire Uwe Gemballa reportedly goes missing in South Africa

Here at Topspeed, we like to make jokes as much as the next guy, but sometimes, we’re met with some pretty distressing news that, quite frankly, if joked about, would makes us look totally classless and insensitive.

That being said, in all seriousness, we got pretty bummed out when we heard the news that Uwe Gemballa, the founder and big boss of the popular Porsche tuner, Gemballa, has been reported missing.

According to a number reports, Gemballa was found missing during the 51-year olds trip to South Africa. There’s no confirmed location as to where he disappeared but the prevailing opinion is that the Gemballa fell off the grid while he was in Johannesburg, which, incidentally, is one of the most notoriously dangerous cities in the world known for its stratospheric crime rate.

For their part, German investigators have been working with local authorities in South Africa to find Gemballa and bring him back to safety.

Our thoughts are with his family as they try to cope with this pretty distressing news and we hope for the safe return of Uwe Gemballa.

Kirby’s first exposure into the world of automobiles happened when he caught Knight Rider on television as a five-year old boy. David Hasselhoff didn’t leave much of an impression on him (that happened later on in Baywatch), but KITT certainly did. To this day, Kirby remains convinced that he will one day own a car with the same ‘spirit’ as the original KITT (not the 2008 monstrosity). He doesn't know when that will be, but until then, he’s committed to expressing his love for KITT, and all cars for that matter, here at TopSpeed.  Read full bio

Uwe is a good friend for many years. The news of him missing has brought sadness to me and I give out my prayers to him and his family. May we find him all well and back to being artist that he is.

That is sad news. Anyhow, lets just hope that he is somewhere in the wilderness trying to enjoy his vacation and that he only ran out of cell phone battery or GPS and laptop life that is why he cant contact anyone. I mean someone that is as high profile as him deserves a break.

Even in other country, once you parked this baby for sure many car nappers will have the interest to have it and sell it to the market for high price.
