CarThrottle Gets To Ride Shotgun In The Bugatti Chiron: Video
Bugatti CEO Wolfgang Durheimer even served as the driver of the test runby Kirby, on
I don’t know if there’s any place in this world that I’d prefer to get invited to than the inside of a Bugatti Chiron. To date, only a handful of people outside those who work for Bugatti have had a chance to enjoy the Chiron on a more personal level. Not that we mind, but the folks over at CarThrottle got the chance to get a ride onboard the Chiron during the 24 Hours of Nurburgring. And, to make the ride-along more special, they were driven around the ‘Ring by no less than Bugatti CEO Wolfgang Durheimer.
There’s a lot to digest in this 13-minute video. The first part of the video takes a close look at the Chiron, highlighting every new aspect of the supercar down to the hilt. As soon as that was done, the real fun started as Durheimer climbs into the cabin of the supercar to run through the start procedure of the Chiron and all the important controls on the steering wheel. Most importantly, he drops an important piece of information, essentially telling CarThrottle that the Chiron’s Guinness World Record-sanctioned record attempt won’t happen until 2018, giving Bugatti enough time to prepare for the attempt. Something tells me that the French automaker is also waiting for the Koenigsegg One:1 to make its record attempt before trying to eclipse the top speed that the One:1 will inevitably set. That’s a smart move for Bugatti.
In any event, Durheimer eventually sets out on the track and proceeds to push the Chiron hard. At one point, he even slows down on the Döttinger Höhe straight before punching the pedal, setting the Chiron loose as it hit 200 mph in a matter of seconds. It may not feel like the car’s going that fast when you watch it, but to hear the gnarly sound of those four turbochargers and all the cuss words that were being beeped out, I’d venture a guess that Durheimer wasn’t holding back one bit.
If ever you get the chance to ride shotgun in a Bugatti Chiron, this video should be your guide on how to brace for the inevitable speed rush.
