Part of what made the previous generation Supra a cult car was the 2JZ engine’s versatility when it came to tuning. And that sort of reputation doesn’t simply wash away, not even when there’s a new Supra running around the block. And this video is perhaps the best testament of the A80 Supra’s legendary status.
EKanoo Racing is back with another world-class build
Upon watching the video below, you might think, hey, that turbo has a cool engine on it. I mean, seriously, what’s next? We’ll have 4,000-horsepower 2JZ Supras in 2030?
This particular build bears the signature of EKanoo Racing and if we know a thing or two about these guys, it’s that they like their tuned cars oozing with horsepower. We’re talking 2,000 to even 4,000 horsepower (yes, they built a Lexus-based dragster with 4,000 horses on tap, check it out below).
We’re here, however, to talk about a Toyota. A Supra, nonetheless, of the fourth generation variety. THE Supra, that is, which, by the way, still packs a 3.0-liter iron-block 2JZ engine, albeit a hand-built one, fitted with a huge-ass Precision Turbo turbocharger, Motec’s M150 engine management setup, and a PPG sequential transmission.
If all that sounds extreme to you, well, that’s because it kind of is. The Supra puts down 2,033 horsepower and 1,303 pound-feet of torque at the wheels, according to dyno readings, which means it could generate in excess of 2,300 horses and 1,500+ pound-feet of twist at the crank.
And while we might not see or know all the intricacies of developing such a tuning project, just head to 3:40 and check out the engineers cheering and celebrating in the background. It surely pays off to work hard on a build such as this and pull it off in style.
Oh, and while we’re on the topic of tuned Supras, we just wanted to let you know that Papadakis Racing managed to tune the new Toyota Supra’s B58 engine to 1,000 horsepower, so maybe the new Supra has some fire in its belly after all.
