It’s not even been a month since we spotted the Model S Plaid at the Nürburgring. Now, the car has been spotted again running laps. YouTube channel CarSpyMedia has uploaded a video of the Model S Plaid running hot laps at the ‘Ring. You can even see it overtake the BMW i4 and the Mercedes-AMG EQS. It looks like Porsche Taycan’s record could be broken soon.

The Model S Plaid Could Be Gunning For A Record Very Soon

The Model S Plaid was doing some hot laps and had some Germans to accompany it. There’s no official word yet, but there are chances this Model S Plaid was used to test the Track Mode. This is mere speculation, so take it with a pinch of salt. With some mighty impressive specs, it was only a matter of time before the company introduced stuff like Track Mode to extract maximum performance out of it. The Track Mode is essentially a software that allows you to customize settings related to the suspensions, motors, performance, etc.

In this video, you can see the Model S Plaid overtake the Mercedes EQS and the BMW i4 There’s no doubt that Tesla is gunning for a record and dethrone the Porsche Taycan. The same car was spotted last month, too. It was seen running on 21-inch Arachnid wheels shod in Michelin tires.} In fact, it wears the same number plate as the blue Tesla Model S prototype that was at the Nürburgring back in 2019! At the end of the video, you can even see it being towed away. Not sure if something broke down or the car ran out of charge.

For the uninitiated, Porsche set the record for the fastest four-door all-electric car at the Nürburgring. It lapped the ring in seven minutes and 42 seconds in the Taycan Turbo back in 2019. Tesla had unofficially set a record back in 2019, but this time, it could be official. The Plaid wasn’t official then, so it was seen as a heavily modified Tesla Model S with an extra motor.

Tesla has unofficially broken Taycan’s record by 29 seconds, but now we could expect an even bigger margin. Perhaps, Tesla is aiming for a time under seven minutes so it could make a strong statement. Also the fact that Porsche set the record in the Taycan Turbo; not the Turbo S, will be playing in Tesla’s mind. The Turbo S is quicker and faster than the standard Turbo and Tesla needs to take that into account as well.
