In a recent video by Wheels, we saw two top-of-the-line Chevy performance cars go head-to-head. Both cars offer a lot of poke under the hood straight out of the box. Throw in a few performance mods and you sure can turn up the heat, even more as you'll witness in the video.

Chevrolet Camaro ZL1

In the silver corner, we have a Chevy Camaro ZL1. Under the hood lurks a 6.2-liter supercharged LT4 V-8 mill that pushes 650 ponies and 650 pound-feet of torque. That V-8 can be mated to either a six-speed manual or auto, with power being sent to the rear wheels. A manual Camaro ZL1 tips the scales at 3,883 lbs. Now the Camaro clearly has the bigger footprint and is the larger vehicle, but can those sticky drag radials help its case?

Chevrolet Corvette C7 Z06

Meanwhile, in the dark grey corner, we have an equally high-performing 'Vette, the last-gen model in the Z06 spec. Yes yes, the world is now totally head over heels about the C8 Z06, but the C7 Z06 was no slouch either. After all, it is the ultimate performance version of a front-engined Vette.

It features the same 6.2-liter supercharged V-8 that produces 650 horses and 650 pound-feet of torque. Power is sent to the rear wheels via a seven-speed manual or an eight-speed auto. So, the two cars are on par, power-wise, but how do they differ? Well, the Vette is slightly lighter tipping the scales at 3,523 lbs.

The Race

Now, logic tells us that the 'Vette ought to be faster; maybe you're right. But, let's see if those drag radials on the Camaro can help it close the gap. The lights go out on the Christmas tree and the two cars are neck and neck. It was quite an epic sight to see and hear these two Chevrolets at full chat out on the drag strip. They run close, how close? Well, the Vette managed a 1/4 mile time of 11.59 seconds at 119.92 mph against the ZL1's 11.61 seconds at 123.23 mph. Now that's a close, close pass.

To Sum It Up

Well, if you were always confused as to which Chevy offers better performance between a Zl1 and a Z06. The short answer is both of them. But, it totally depends on what you're looking for. If canyon carving and attacking corner is your thing, then the Vette is a no-brainer. It's lighter as opposed to the ZL1 and packs better dynamics.

The Z06 can get around the Nurburgring in under seven minutes. However, the Vette is a strict two-seater, so if you want a little more space from your performance Chevy and prefer a muscle car from appeals to you, then the ZL1 certainly fits the bill.

Bonus Rounds

The bonus round saw both bowtie products go up against some classic muscle cars including a Dodge Dart and an old Dodge Challenger. You can watch the video below.
