Back on July 10, 2020, we told you about the C8 Corvette’s frunk problem – you know; the one where the front hood opens as you’re driving for no reason? Well, it took 5 days for GM to issue a statement, and in that statement, it blames drivers for the Funk opening on its own. Now, just over two months later, Chevy and GM are issuing a recall that apparently affects more than 6,000 2020 model year C8 Corvettes, however, you apparently still don’t know how to properly latch the front hood.

GM – Never Missing An Opportunity to Deflect Fault

According to GM's official Defect report for the 2020 Chevy C8 Corvette, all of the cases with the Vette's front hood opening on its own boils down to driver error. Even better yet, despite the various videos of this happening with no alerts whatsoever, it's been narrowed down to drivers ignoring the vehicle's visual and audible warnings. The official recall description reads:

Keep in mind that the Corvette already limits speed to a certain limit if the front hood isn't latched. Be that as it may, GM's fix will come in the form of an over-the-air software update that will limit the vehicle's speed to just 26 mph (42 kph) if the system detects that the frunk isn't latched. Furthermore, the update will "reduce the likelihood of inadvertent hood release actuations" by modifying how the keyfob release button works as well as the interior door trim switch and the release inside the frunk.

As of now, there's no word as to when GM and Chevy will roll out the fix. According to a statement made to Motor1.com, a GM Spokesperson said that "engineers are working around the clock to finalize the software update." As for whether or not this OTA update will actually solve the problem remains to be seen, but I guess we'll learn soon enough.
