After Jeremy Clarkston was booted off of Top Gear, and his co-hosts James May and Richard Hammond walked off the show, the fate of the show as a whole was questioned. BBC announced that the show would continue, and eventually named Chris Evans as the show's first host. Since then, there have been some rumors of who would co-host the new Top Gear with him, but nothing serious – until now.

Apparently, Top Gear->ke1860 will be co-hosted by Autocar’s Chris Harris – most known for his video reviews of cars on Youtube – and Sabine Schmitz, who is a German race car driver. That isn’t the only news about the show, however. Executive producer Lisa Clark will now be leaving the show, as well as script editor, Tom Ford. With the two recent departures, it looks like David Coulthard – an Ex-Formula One driver – will also be joining the show in one capacity or another. We’re not sure where he will fit in, but it’s likely that he’ll be working behind the scenes, given the recent departure of the executive producer.

So what does all this mean for Top Gear? It is hard to say, really. Sabine Schmitz is rather unknown to the TV world, but she has had her moments, and was rather fun to watch as she raced a van around the Nürburgring in the past– she does go by the nickname “Queen of the Nürburgring.” Chris Harris, on the other hand, has more of a following after all of his YouTube videos->ke278 and does have an interesting personality. Will these two, teamed up with Chris Evans make the show anywhere near as good as it was?

Why it matters

Sometimes, you have a mix of the right people at the right time, and I think that is what happened with Hammond, Clarkston, and May. That said, I don’t think Top Gear will be as good as it once was, but it may turn out to be interesting in its own way. I highly doubt the show can shine with the same light as before, but it is a car show, so we all check it out at one point or another. The biggest problem is that these three hosts have some pretty big and entertaining shoes to fill, and they will have their work cut out for them. I’ll be checking out the new show when it airs, but I’m not getting my hopes up for anything spectacular.
