Car enthusiasts are often obsessed with timepieces as well. Consider me as an example. When a watchmaker collaborates with an automaker for a limited amount of watches, I'd be quick to research about it and how to order one. Citizen is the latest watchmaker to offer a rare amount of special timepieces that were made in collaboration with Nissan to celebrate the upcoming release of the Z sports car.

This will be the first time that Citizen has collaborated with Nissan for a special timepiece, and their first-ever collaboration has resulted in a watch that looks as beautiful as it is functional. The pair of watches feature Citizen's watchmaking expertise along with the Nissan Z's beautiful design touches.

There are two models to choose from. Starting with the AT8185-89E, this particular model is accented with the Nissan Z's Ikazuchi Yellow paint and this is contrasted by a black case, hands, and crown. The watch's dial has a dotted pattern that mimics the seat design of the Nissan Z Proto Spec Edition.

On the other hand, the AT8185-97E comes in Seiran Blue, the second signature color of the Nissan Z. For this watch, the dial on the center of the face is finished in matte black, which mimics the look of freshly-laid asphalt. The hands are then finished in silver for a much more understated look.

Both models come with a red second hand, which has been inspired by the redline on a tachometer. Topping it all off is a “Z” mark on the crown and a Nissan logo at the back of the watch.

Additionally, both watches are powered by Citizen's Eco-Drive Atomic Timekeeping functionality. The watch self-adjusts to time or calendar when traveling overseas by receiving local time signals in four different regions, namely Japan, United States, China, and Europe. Regardless of which watch is chosen, expect a timepiece that's made with Citizen's lightweight but very tough SuperTitanium case and scratch-resistant band.

Only 1,700 timepieces of the Citizen x Fairlady Z watch will be sold worldwide, with each watch priced at $2,495. If you can't afford a Nissan Z yourself, owning the watch that was designed in collaboration with it should be the next best thing.

There are also other famous timepieces that were developed in collaboration with automakers and even racing teams throughout history. Some of these include the limited-edition Subaru STI watch that was limited to just 300 units worldwide, and the Casio Edifice X Red Bull Racing A1000 watch that's limited to just 100 units.
