It’s official! The French automaker Citroen has confirmed that their first hybrid model will be in showrooms by 2011. The DS5 will be feature a traditional front wheel drive power train combined with hybrid electric motors to provide additional moving force to the rear rollers. The design is inspired by the C-Sportlounge concept car that was revealed back at the 2005 Frankfurt Motor Show.

The Citroen DS5 be powered by a HDI diesel engine turning the front wheels combined with separate electrics motors to provide extra grunt to the rear wheels whenever necessary. According to Citroen’s parent company, PSA, "The innovative technology delivers a multitude of benefits - considerable fuel savings and around a 35 per cent reduction in CO2 emissions.”
