Meet Alex Jones. The man has just set a new Cannonball Motorcycle Record, getting from New York to LA in 32 hours and 52 minutes. With this blistering time, Alex has beaten the previous motorcycle record for the Cannonball Run, which was set by Calvin Cote in April 2019, who completed the same run on BMW K1600 GTL in 35 hours and 6 minutes.

As we know the Cannonball Run is a historic, coast-to-coast transcontinental blast across the U.S. and people have tried to outgun each other over time. The route is close to 3000 miles long and Alex mostly stuck to the Interstate Network on his cross country run.

He used a 2014 Yamaha FJR1300, that was equipped with a 7-gallon auxiliary fuel cell, radar detector, laser jammers, two mounted phones, and auxiliary lighting. Alex says that his drive across the country was relatively uneventful for the most part. Even the weather was on his side with him, only having to contend with strong winds along the way.

The seven-year-old bike meanwhile, had some technical glitches. The electronics weren’t as reliable and the cruise control system stopped working on the route. The auxiliary lights also gave up, which would have certainly made it far more challenging for Alex, riding flat out at night.

He managed to cross over 11 U.S. states on this record run. He began his journey On the morning of Oct 17th at 6:24 EDT, in the state of New York, i.e from the Redball Garage in New York City.

Heading west, he crossed into the state of Pennsylvania and onwards into Ohio followed by Indiana and Illinois. Alex then turned south crossing into Missouri, Oklahoma, and then further south into Texas. He began his final westward stint, crossing into New Mexico, Arizona, and the final home stretch into California.

In the end, he made it in one piece to the Sunshine State, after having traversed most of the country un-scaved, with bald tires of course. He reached the Portofino Hotel in Redondo Beach at 12:16 PDT the following day, after 32 hours and 52 minutes, setting a new Cannon Ball record on a motorcycle.
