A vintage car recently hit the Bring-a-Trailer auctions and it looks fantastic. The Lincoln Model L touring car is nearly a century old, but seems to be in a pristine condition. The car was acquired by the Indianapolis Motor Speedway Foundation in 1974 from Florida and has been kept in its museum ever since and is taken out only during annual parades. The car is now 96 years old and is nothing more than a collectible, but it has still managed to draw 17 bids at the time of writing.

Background

As mentioned earlier, this 1926 Lincoln Model S came into the Indianapolis Motor Speedway Foundation’s possession in 1974. The foundation has taken it out only during the annual IPL 500 Festival Parade. For the rest of the time, it stays put in the museum’s climate-controlled storage facility.

What Makes The 1926 Lincoln Model L Special?

On the outside, it features a greyhound hood ornament and Plexiglas wind wings. The folding top and dual side-mounted spare tires further add to its unique charisma. The top comes with wood bows and a beveled glass rear window. It rides on wire wheels wrapped in Firestone bias-ply tires. Matching spare wheels are mounted in both front fenders. The brakes are retro-tech mechanical drums on all the four wheels.

The seating setup includes two rows of seats and a pair of jump seats in the rear cabin and a single bench in the front. The area behind the second cowl is finished in matching upholstery. Locking drawers, lighting, and a fire extinguisher round up the add-ons here.

Coming to the cockpit, there’s a wood-spoke steering wheel on the metal dashboard.

It also features a Delco switchgear and period-specific barrel-type Waltham speedometer and clock. There are also separate gauges monitoring the fuel level, oil pressure, and amperage, something that’s not visible in most of the cars these days. The front section comprises of a split-bench seat that’s upholstered in brown. The same-colored door panels and tan carpeting complement this upholstery.

It features a 60-degree angle between the cylinder banks along with “fork and blade” connecting rods. Power is sent to the rear wheels via a three-speed, sliding-gear transmission. It has semi-elliptical leaf springs on all corners.

Final Thoughts

Although the odo shows 46,000 miles, the total mileage of this 1926 Lincoln Model L is unknown. The Indianapolis Motor Speedway Foundation has been servicing the car once annually before the IPL 500 Festival Parade. As for the repairs and replacements, headlights from a 1927 model were installed during previous ownership and the right taillight lens has been replaced with a plastic piece. The site also mentions that Museum staff cleaned the car using Sonax car care products in preparation for the sale.

The auction ends on 25 September 2020 and the bid stands at $29,250 at the time of writing this article. You can head over to the Bring a Trailer website and place your bid if this vintage car interests you.
