GM has been very busy lately, they did the final tuning and testing there before we start ZR1 production cars. And this morning the Corvette ZR1 was driven by General Motors development engineer Jim Mero around the Nürburgring in a time of 7:26.4.

The car was bone stock with the exception of the communications and safety equipment. The tires were production Michelin Pilot Sport 2’s. These tires have been developed specifically for the ZR1 and will have impressive wet traction and wear (tread wear rating = 220), in addition to excellent dry road holding. Chassis alignment and vehicle height were set to factory specs. Likewise, the engine calibrations were absolutely stock, emissions compliant and the car ran on pump (not racing) fuel. The vehicle was exactly like the cars that will be built in Bowling Green, Kentucky and sold around the world later this summer.

Despite posting one of the fastest times ever run by a production car, Nürburgring lap times were not an over-riding priority in the development of the ZR1. The truth is, if the only priority was speed at the ring, the car would not be very pleasant to drive on American roads. The ZR1 is an incredibly capable track machine, but unlike most ultra-high performance cars, it is very easy to live with on a daily basis.

The V spec GT-R and the LF-A have done 7.25 while still in production status. It would be interesting to put all three cars on the Nurburgring in the same condition.

I find that hard to believe.

with 620 hp and 595 lb.-ft. of torque i’m not surprised that it did it in that time, it’s possible if GM improved the handling and grip

YEAH RIGHT! like anybody could belive a corvette could do that! we all know it drives like crap GM so give it up! either you used a car thats much more than stock or you bribe whoever was timing the corvette lap! its pretty obvious since we all know your desperate for attention since your company is going bankrupt! hahahahahaha!

jeez! we got another scam here! first it was the cts-v, now the zr1..i cant believe cadillac and GM are that desperate for attention for its cars.everyone knows corvette’s and cadillac’s drive like crap on the track but still they do it.
i guess nobody really checks the cars that go around the ring otherwise if there was, they would surely have found out that the zr1 and CTS-V are more than stock cars. i guess they just take their word for it when they say "yeah, these are just stock cars"..or maybe they just bribe whoever was supposed to check it or the guy that does the time around the ’ring. we all know the americans are the best when it comes to bribing people.
sorry GM, but your scam is too obvious and stupid i just saw through it. now go back to ur break area and think of a lesser obvious way to drive around the ’ring with high lap time claims! by the way, screw you GM for being a piece of !!!
