The novel coronavirus pandemic could lead to the cancellation of the 2020 Paris Motor Show. According to the organizers, the new Paris Motion Festival, which was supposed to include the 2020 Paris Motor Show, might not happen this year. French organization La Plateforme Automobile (PFA) says that even if the event will go on as scheduled, the car show will be much smaller than before.

Is the 2020 Paris Motor Show Officially Canceled?

The event is scheduled to begin on October 1 and last until October 11.

Unlike previous editions, the 2020 show is supposed to be included in a new event called the Paris Motion Festival. Set to debut on September 26, it includes events such as Movin'On and Smart City, which are centered around future technology and mobility.

"We launched this transformation before the pandemic," a spokeswoman for the PFA said in a phone interview, according to Autoblog. "We want to help our partners navigate these changing times. But, ultimately, it's clear the show as you know it is canceled."

Although the event is not yet cancelled officially, the recession that's expected to hit the global economy due to the COVID-19 outbreak could put an end to it. We will, of course, keep you posted on the matter as soon as PFA releases more information.

New York and Detroit auto shows also cancelled

Originally scheduled to take place in April, the 2020 New York Auto Show was recently postponed until August. New York is currently the epicenter of the pandemic in the United States and local authorities decided to turn the Jacob Javits center into a field hospital. Although there's plenty of time to clear the area and prepare it for a major auto show, it's unlikely that the event will take place. The number of confirmed cases and deaths are on the rise in the U.S. and the most optimist predictions claim that the virus will continue to spread for at least two more months.

Rescheduled from January to June starting 2020, the event was canceled recently as the Cobo Hall is being converted into a field hospital.

"Although we are disappointed, there is nothing more important to us than the health, safety, and well-being of the citizens of Detroit and Michigan. With more than 100 convention centers and facilities around the country being considered to potentially serve as temporary hospitals, it became clear to us that the TCF Center would be an inevitable option to serve as a care facility to satisfy our community's urgent health needs," said NAIAS Executive Director, Rod Alberts.

Will SEMA and the Los Angles Auto Shows Be Canceledt?

The SEMA Show and Los Angeles Auto Show are next in line in this year's automotive calendar. SEMA is scheduled to start on November 3, while Los Angeles should debut on November 20. That's less than a month after the 2020 Paris Motor Show.

With the European event almost cancelled, it's safe to say that SEMA and Los Angeles could be axed as well. If this happens, 2020 will come to and end without major automotive events. The Tokyo Auto Salon and the Chicago Auto Show are the only somewhat notable car shows that actually happened this year.
