British software developer NaturalMotion has just released a teaser for CSR2, its upcoming sequel to the hit CSR Racing, and man does it look good. Featuring a 45-second walk-around of an extremely orange 2014 McLaren P1, you’d easily forget you were watching a trailer for a mobile game, as the graphics quality is undoubtedly on par with older-generation console titles.

The original CSR, released in 2012, was a free-to-play drag-racing game for iOS, OS X, and Android platforms. It did quite well, quickly earning $12 million in monthly revenues soon after its release. It was downloaded some 130 million times, which prompted social games publisher Zynga to pony up $527 million to acquire NaturalMotion.

Now, we get a peak at the hotly anticipated follow-up. The game will fall in line with its predecessor, with a free-to-play model and drag racing-oriented gameplay. Instead of steering and braking, the focus is on executing optimal gear changes on a quarter- or half-mile track. The controls are simple to understand and perform, and designed for quick games without extensive commitment.

Gamers will be able to accumulate and manage a stable of high-end sports cars, each rendered in highly accurate detail. For the developers, authenticity was paramount. To help support the graphical precision, NaturalMotion reportedly acquired CAD data from manufacturers like Ferrari, Lamborghini, McLaren, and Pagani. Further specifics, such as factory paint options, model trim options, and even the brake caliper colors are all correct.

CSR2 will also come with new controls and mechanics, the details of which currently remain under wraps, while social gameplay will take on new importance. Continuity between CSR 1 and 2 is also a possibility.

CSR2 will see a soft-launch in the next few weeks, with wider release on iOS and Android devices expected later this year.
