McLaren Senna is no longer the quickest car around the Laguna Seca, thanks to the Czinger 21C!by Dim Angelov, on LISTEN 02:56
It seems like hybrid supercars are the thing now, as more and more of them keep cropping up left and right like mushrooms. This brings us to the Czinger 21C – a car introduced in 2020 by American hybrid carmaker, Czinger Vehicles. The car certainly boasts impressive figures, and recently, it added another one to its resume.
The Czinger managed a 1:25:44 lap time, which is over two seconds quicker than the Senna’s 1:27:62 record.
Of course, this shouldn’t be much of a surprise, since the Czinger 21C packs a lot more power.
Its 2.88-liter twin-turbo V-8 features a flat-plane crankshaft, which allows for an 11,000 RPM redline. More importantly, it produces 950 horsepower (708 kilowatts) and 550 pound-feet (746 Nm). But there’s more.
The rev-happy V-8 is aided by three electric motors – one axial flux motor and two high-output electric motors with torque vectoring – for a total output of 1,250 horsepower (932 kilowatts). The package is completed by a seven-speed sequential transaxle. The Czinger ran in “high downforce” mode and had Michelin Pilot Sport Cup 2 tires equipped.
We mentioned that the Czinger is a collection of crazy figures. The 0 to 62 mph (100 km/h) sprint takes a rib-cracking 1.9 seconds. The top speed? That’s 281 mph (452 km/h). Because it has a dry weight of just 1,240 kg (2,734 pounds), the Czinger also has a 1:1 power-to-weight ratio.
Czinger claims more hard-to-believe figures, like a quarter-mile time of 8.1 seconds, 0 to 186 mph (300 km/h), and back to 0 in 15.0 seconds and 0 to 248 mph (400 km/h) to 0 in 29.0 seconds. Or, in other words, quicker than the Koenigsegg Regera. Now, they just need to back those claims up.
Regardless, Czinger already proved the 21C’s capabilities by snatching a lap record from one of the most capable track cars of our time – the McLaren Senna. Czinger will make 80 examples of the 21C, each priced at a whopping $1.7 million.
