  •  The company in top 10 for supplier diversity

DiversityInc named DaimlerChrysler to its 2007 “Top 50” list for diversity this week.

The annual national listing, now in its seventh year, is based on four key areas: CEO Commitment, Human Capital, Corporate Communications and Supplier Diversity.

“DaimlerChrysler is much different from the average corporation; it is a true champion of diversity,” said Luke Visconti, partner and co-founder of DiversityInc.

DaimlerChrysler values diversity and champions diversity issues in the U.S. and around the world. Nearly 30 percent of DaimlerChrysler’s workforce is made up of ethnic minorities, while women make up 21 percent of the company’s workforce.

“DaimlerChrysler’s inclusion in the DiversityInc ‘Top 50’ list validates the company’s commitment to diversity practices throughout the entire organization,” said Nancy Rae, Senior Vice President – Human Resources and co-chair of the DaimlerChrysler Diversity Council. “Because of the support and commitment to diversity by our senior management team, the company continues to make great strides in its quest to be recognized as the best company for diversity.”

DaimlerChrysler’s commitment to diversity extends throughout the organization, including supplier and dealer operations. DiversityInc also named DaimlerChrysler as one 10 top companies for supplier diversity.

DaimlerChrysler spent $3.9 billion with minority suppliers in 2006, representing 13.5 percent of total supplier spending in 2006. The average DiversityInc “Top 50” company spent 9.7 percent of their total procurement spending with minority suppliers.

“DaimlerChrysler is proud to be selected for the coveted DivesityInc ‘Top 50’ list,” said Monica Emerson, Executive Director – Corporate Diversity Office. “Our goal is to make sure DaimlerChrysler is a great place to work for all employees. We know that diversity and inclusion throughout our entire enterprise delivers a true competitive advantage in today’s global marketplace.”
