• Despite a revealing sketch, Volvo shoots down rumors about a possible compact electric car

Volvo has kept mum on a possible future electric car despite the fact that a sketch of the said vehicle was shown at a recent event hosted by EnerDel, a lithium-ion battery manufacturer that’s scheduled to supply Volvo with the electric vehicle platform for the Swedish brand’s new electric Volvo C30.

According to a Volvo spokesperson, the sketch, which was admittedly made by one of their in-house designers, was made as an illustrated example of electric cars in general and not as a specific Volvo model.

The sketch, which features a futuristic-looking hatchback, came with a caption saying “a future Volvo electric car?” eventually leading to rampant speculation that Volvo may be looking into producing a compact electric car in the near future.

We don’t know if this is merely a smokescreen set up by Volvo to divert attention regarding their future plans but for now, we’ll take the company’s word for it. For now.

Kirby’s first exposure into the world of automobiles happened when he caught Knight Rider on television as a five-year old boy. David Hasselhoff didn’t leave much of an impression on him (that happened later on in Baywatch), but KITT certainly did. To this day, Kirby remains convinced that he will one day own a car with the same ‘spirit’ as the original KITT (not the 2008 monstrosity). He doesn't know when that will be, but until then, he’s committed to expressing his love for KITT, and all cars for that matter, here at TopSpeed.  Read full bio

the style of the car is a mess and there are a lot of companies that released cars with the same style. Volvo should change the style and design of the car since it’s not yet finished.

Electric cars are great at some point but if a purely electric car, no other source of power, can have a lot of boundaries and limitation at times. Considering the time that it’s battery has and the charging time needed to keep it up, travel time maybe compromised.

I hope that this is merely testing the water. To see how car enthusiasts would react on the electric car issue. Hope they would read my reaction and my message for you guys is to GO FOR IT!

I’d look forward for a Volvo electric car. It’s interesting on how their car would look like once they pursue it. I hope it doesn’t look like this.

That’s right. I think that there is nothing wrong if Volvo would come up with an electric car. For as long as it doesn’t look like this. I’m sure they can do a lot better.

Well should this be true, I don’t think that there is anything wrong. There have been a strong clamor among car enthusiasts for car manufacturers to produce cars that are environmental friendly.
