The new 2020 Audi RS7 Sportback was just announced at the Frankfurt Auto Show, and it’s already starting to get some major media attention. That attention, right now, is on the fact that Audi may have intentionally understated the RS7’s performance. To what extent? Well, the guys at Auditography decided to find out for themselves.

2020 Audi RS7 Performance Video

According to Audi, the 2020 RS7 can hit 62.1 mph (100 kph) in 3.6 seconds on the way to 124 mph (200 kph) in 12 seconds flat. The RS7 looks faster than that, though, doesn’t it? Well, Auditography strapped a Vbox into the new RS7 and hit the gas. Punch the gas from a standstill and cruising up to 124 mph took just 11.9 seconds or 0.1-seconds quicker than Audi’s claim of 12-seconds flat.

What about the quarter-mile, though? Well, Auditography had to make that run too because, well, curiosity. With two people inside the car (driver+passenger) and a loaded trunk, the RS7 ran the quarter-mile in an impressive 11.8 seconds – not bad for a car that tips the scales at 4,552 pounds without a driver, passenger, or cargo on board. With just a driver – no cargo or second passenger – it’s quite possible that the new RS7 could come pretty damn close to hitting the quarter-mile in right around 11 seconds. Maybe not quite that fast, but it will be close.

With a more powerful hybrid model expected to hit the market in the next year or two, the Audi RS7, in its best form, could become a 10-second car and break the 3.0-second barrier for the sprint to 60 mph. For now, we’ll just have to wait to see how that goes, but until then, enjoy the video above.
