Up until now, it was largely unknown whether or not there would be a Shelby GT500 or a Bullitt Mustang derived from the sixth-gen Mustang – especially considering the fact that it just went through a major facelift for 2018. Rumors have been flying like pans from a scorned wife, but nothing official. And, there’s still nothing official, but the guys over at Mustang6G forums have posted a couple of intriguing images that point to the GT500 being a near certainty. We’re talking about a supercharger for the 5.2-liter with a Cobra emblem on it and a pair of massive rotors with Brembo calipers. Sure, security over there must suck, but the good news for us is that it looks like a GT500 is in the works. And, it could debut real soon, right next to the new Bullitt Mustang…. Say what? That’s right… two icons could very well make their return with the next few months. Keep reading to learn more.

More About the Shelby GT500

At this point, all we’ve seen are leaked, authentic-looking images of a supercharged and a massive brake rotor. But, there’s a little more to it than that. Take a closer look at the brake rotor. Do you see the stamps on the hub? It says KR3V and, as one forum member pointed out based on the GT350 rotor codes, K would point to 2019, R3 means Mustang, and V means specialty vehicle engineering. Furthermore, there’s also an easter egg image floating around, seen below, that gives us some info than could stand for something more. See, the odometer on the image below? It reads 1121.8 or 1-12-18, which is a day before the Detroit Auto Show kicks off and an ideal debut time for a Shelby (or Bullitt Mustang) Look at the main odo – it reads 1964.5, and I really hope we don’t have to explain that numbering to you. What about that time? The 289 miles to empty and the 55 mph speed? There’s a lot more going on here than meets the eye, but the important part is the miles, pointing to a Detroit debut and something we’re really looking forward to. Or, maybe we’re wrong…

A New Bullitt Mustang

At this point, you’ve probably seen those weird images of a potential Bullitt Mustang doing commercial filming in Chicago. Everybody has covered it. Hell, we’ve covered it twice. That thing is now all but confirmed by Ford as the latest images pretty much give it away. Does that mean that we’ll see a new Bullitt Mustang show up next to a Shelby GT500 at the Detroit Auto Show? Maybe the GT500 debuts there and the Bullitt debuts at the super bowl…. Now that would be something, right?

Final Thoughts

Oh man, two special Mustangs in one year? Talk about amazing. But, maybe it won’t happen and is all vaporware mixed in with some crazy coincidences. Either way, it’s a good time to be alive, and performance cars are really making a comeback. I can’t help but mention that line after reading it on Mustang6G, as the member post made a very good point. Look at all of the cars we have for the taking… The Dodge Charger and Challenger Hellcats with crazy Hemi engines, the Dodge Demon, and let’s not forget the new Focus RS and the fact that the Civic Si has finally found its way to American shores. The point is, my friends, that while SUVs are running rampant and filling our streets, there’s still a performance car our there for just about anyone whether you want crazy power and RWD, a hot hatch with AWD, or a FWD performer like the Civic SI. It’s only fitting that Ford come correct with a car like the GT500 and it’s about damn time we get another Bullitt, don’t you think? Let us know your thoughts in the comments section below.
