Car Magazine caught the upcoming Challenger testing, a proof that Chrysler was very serious when telling that the car will go into production.

The production version features the same quad circular headlamp from the concept version, but the big 19inch alloy wheels and bullethead-shaped wing mirrors are dead.

The Challenger is powered by a revised version of the 6.1-litre V8 used in the current SRT-8 version of the 300C. Tuned for a healthy 450bhp, the gutsy Hemi, hooked up to a six-speed automatic transmission, should rocket the Dodge to 60mph in just under five seconds and top out at around 170mph.

Challenger will go on sale in Europe next year at a price around £40,000.
