Dodge Is Now Taking Orders For Its 2015 Shaker Lineup
Say what you want about Dodge, the carmaker sure knows how to read the market and give purists what they want. Returning by popular demand and to also celebrate 45 years of Dodge’s "cold-air grabbing" hood scoop that "shakes" along with the engine’s revs, three 2015 Challenger V-8 models will be available with the legendary "Shaker" hood.
"After selling out last year’s Shaker model production in just four days, our hardcore Challenger customers demanded we bring back the Shaker – plus offer more power and more performance," said Tim Kuniskis, President and CEO, Dodge and SRT Brands. "We listened, and for 2015, the new Dodge Challenger lineup offers the legendary Shaker hood expanded to include our 485 horsepower Hemi V-8 delivering up to 113 more horsepower than last year, plus even more track-proven hardware and technology – a combination our enthusiasts have been waiting for."
The 2015 Challenger R/T Shaker and R/T Plus Shaker are already available for ordering as of right now, while the 392 Hemi Scat Pack Shaker will be available in March. The least-expensive model is the regular Challenger R/T Shaker. It it starts at $35,495 MSRP, while the better-equipped Challenter R/T Plus Shaker starts at $38,495 MSRP. Why it matters
Dodge wants to keep the "Shaker" hood as exclusive as possible, so you shouldn’t wonder if the 2015 models get sold out days after they hit the showrooms. First appearing on the 1970 Dodge Challenger R/T, the legendary hood scoop has since become one of the most coveted options by die-hard Mopar fans and muscle-car fans in general.
Apart from looking cool as hell when the engine is revved, the scoop is aslo functional, as it feeds a Moper cold-air intake that incorporates a conical air filter and an air box optimized for improved engine airflow. Dodge doesn’t specify, but it is possible that close to sea-level, "Shaker" hoods might even elicit a bit of extra performance from the engines. But even if not...who cares?

Powered by a naturally aspirated, 5.7-liter, V-8 with 375 horsepower and 410 pound-feet of torque, the Challenger R/T Shaker and R/T Plus Shaker make for some pretty good entry-level models in the world of shaking hood scoops at Dodge. Both models come with a six-speed manual transmission, but an eight-speed Torqueflite gearbox with paddle shifters is also available. Unfortunately, those going for the automatic will only get 372 horsepower and 400 pound-feet of torque, along with Fuel Saver Technology with four-cylinder mode and interactive Decel Fuel Shut Off (iDFSO). The Super Track Pak is standard as well, and includes 0.5-inch lowered suspension, high-performance shock absorbers and brakes, a three-mode electronic stability control system and Goodyear Eagle F1 tires.
Also knowns as the "King of Shakers," the 392 Hemi Scat Pack Shaker kicks out 485 horsepower and 475 pound-feet of torque from its naturally aspirated, 6.4-liter V-8, an improvement over the 5.7-liter Challenger R/T. Coming with a standard Tremec six-speed manual transmission, but also available the an eight-speed automatic, the 392 Hemi can hit 60 mph in around 4.5 seconds, and the quarter in a little over 12 seconds.
