Why it matters

Dodge wants to keep the "Shaker" hood as exclusive as possible, so you shouldn't wonder if the 2015 models get sold out days after they hit the showrooms. First appearing on the 1970 Dodge Challenger R/T, the legendary hood scoop has since become one of the most coveted options by die-hard Mopar fans and muscle-car fans in general.

Apart from looking cool as hell when the engine is revved, the scoop is aslo functional, as it feeds a Moper cold-air intake that incorporates a conical air filter and an air box optimized for improved engine airflow. Dodge doesn't specify, but it is possible that close to sea-level, "Shaker" hoods might even elicit a bit of extra performance from the engines. But even if not...who cares?

Dodge Challenger R/T Shaker

Powered by a naturally aspirated, 5.7-liter, V-8 with 375 horsepower and 410 pound-feet of torque, the Challenger R/T Shaker and R/T Plus Shaker make for some pretty good entry-level models in the world of shaking hood scoops at Dodge. Both models come with a six-speed manual transmission, but an eight-speed Torqueflite gearbox with paddle shifters is also available. Unfortunately, those going for the automatic will only get 372 horsepower and 400 pound-feet of torque, along with Fuel Saver Technology with four-cylinder mode and interactive Decel Fuel Shut Off (iDFSO). The Super Track Pak is standard as well, and includes 0.5-inch lowered suspension, high-performance shock absorbers and brakes, a three-mode electronic stability control system and Goodyear Eagle F1 tires.
