It was inevitable, but it’s still a surprise. After staying mum for quite some time, Dodge has finally announced its arrival to the EV scene. As a muscle car manufacturer that caters to the purists primarily, it kind of goes against the grain to bow down to the ions. But, when the only other option is to fade away into oblivion forever, you have to succumb to it. And, that’s what Dodge did.

The company, however, kept its pride by saying that “Dodge WILL NOT sell electric cars. Dodge WILL sell American eMuscle. Well, tomato-Tomahto, but man, Dodge managed to hype this inevitability! The company announced a new EV model for 2024, and it will be a Muscle car, in case that wasn’t clear. What are we looking at? 1,000+ horses?

Dodge Hasn’t Revealed Much About Its EV Plans, But There Is A Lot Known

In the four-odd-minute video, Dodge announced that its first electric car will arrive in 2024 and will be the ‘first full battery electric muscle car’. Addressed by the company’s CEO, Tim Kuniskis, it was made clear from the beginning of this video that Dodge will continue to focus on the American Muscle segment. Just like Ford did with the F-150 Lightning in its launch video, Dodge also acknowledged its heritage and addressed the new, upcoming chapter as a paradigm shift.

A car was parked there under the wraps which didn’t give a lot and could very well just be a ‘placebo’ for all we know, but the video had a few bits that give us an idea of what to expect. For starters, Dodge will stick to the conventional styling of a muscle car. In fact, it will be a bummer if the company opts for something futuristic now.

It wouldn’t be a bad idea since ‘life comes a full circle’. You can see the sculpted hood, the sleek grille design, and an old-school bumper design. There is a long LED strip that runs the width of the car, though. That seems enough for a ‘futuristic’ touch, doesn’t it? But, it must be noted this is a concept design.

Now, this might be a long shot, but the Dodge EV could be offered with a quad-motor setup. You can see the car do a four-wheel burnout at one point. To think even more wildly, how about in-wheel hub motors like the ones that were rumored on the Lordstown Endurance? That would change the dynamics of the segment!

The CEO also spoke about how the company has milked the maximum power from its internal combustion engines and how electric powertrains give even more scope for higher power generation. With a quad-motor setup and Dodge’s history to not skimp on the power outputs, a four-digit power figure might be in the reckoning.

But, this wasn’t the only throwback; there seems to be another surprise for us in the store…

… Yes, the logo! The video a different logo multiple times in the video. The car teased even had the illuminated logos at the front and back. That’s the Fratzog logo that Dodge cars bore for almost two decades from 1962 to 1981. The name ‘Fratzog’ has no relevance or history, per se. It is some random word that everyone just seems to have adopted.

To throw in a little more history, the Fratzog was preceded by a ‘Forward Look’ logo and succeeded by the ‘Pentastar’, both of which stayed for about a decade. Also, it is the logo that stayed alive for the longest time after the company’s first logo, which was a Six-Pointed Star emblem that lived on for 24 years.

When Will The Dodge EV Arrive?

The Dodge EV will arrive in 2024. No other details were given, but we’re sure to hear – and hopefully ‘see’ – more of it moving forward.

Final Thoughts

Will this be a Tesla “Challenger”, or will Dodge continue to fight it out only in the Muscle car niche? The video makes it clear that it’s the latter, but the kind of performance that Dodge can attain and has indirectly promised in this video, we won’t rule out it taking on the likes of the Tesla Model S and the Lucid Air.

Also, what do you think the name will be? Wouldn’t “Charger” be a good fit? Given that the car seems to have an old design and an old logo, will Dodge revive an old moniker, which seems to be the trend these days? (Ford Lightning, Jeep Wagoneer, Ford Bronco, Jeep Gladiator, etc.) I have too many questions already. What are your thoughts on this announcement from Dodge?
