Ram Trucks has issued a Technical Service Bulletin for an undisclosed number of 2017 Ram 1500 special edition pickups that left the factory with “Hemi 5.7-liter” badges mounted to their fenders, when in reality, the trucks were equipped with the standard 3.6-liter Pentastar V-6.

According to Automotive News, TSB number 23-053-16 calls for FCA dealerships to remove the Hemi badges whenever an affected truck comes in for service. The TSB reads: "If the vehicle has Hemi emblems installed and the vehicle does not have a Hemi engine, the emblem will need to be removed." Owners will likely be notified of the issue, at least by the dealership completing the TSB at the time of service.

It’s unknown if the affected trucks also came with the $1,150 up-charge that corresponds with the Hemi V-8 option. If so, owners will surely see a refund check coming their way.

What’s worse, unwitting customers could feel duped by FCA or their local dealership. The potential for false advertisement lawsuits is real possibility. Hopefully Ram and dealership management will be able to quell customer concerns before legal action ensues. Perhaps these customers will get a great deal on a (truly) Hemi-powered Ram in a trade negotiation. We’d hope so, at least.
